Putting the KONY1212 Campaign in Context
Many of you would have seen the viral video "KONY2012" put out by the non-profit group Invisible Children. It is part of a campaign to make the Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony notoriously famous, raise awareness about his atrocities and facilitate his arrest for crimes against children. Although the campaign has been a hugely successful experiment in viral media and digital activism, some have raised concerns about the accuracy and effectiveness of the campaign. Here, I weigh in on the need to put the KONY12 campaign in proper context.
